November 2005 - To mark 436 days without a reportable injury at ShoreMaster's Plastics Division, the entire work crew of 32 employees were recognized at a company celebration Nov. 2. The last reportable injury at ShoreMaster Plastics was Aug. 23, 2004. During the six months prior to that date, the plant recorded several injuries.
At the safety celebration John Erickson, CEO of Otter Tail Corporation, and corporate safety staff dished up barbecues for the crew. "The ShoreMaster commitment to building a safety culture is on target," Erickson said. "People doing their jobs well, responsibly and safely are exactly what we expect of the individuals and teams within each Otter Tail company." The corporation consists of a dozen companies, including Fergus Falls-based ShoreMaster and Otter Tail Power Company. Plant Manager Rob Katzenmeyer presented each employee with a felt-lined Carhartt jacket embroidered with "ShoreMaster Plastics Safety Award." Katzenmeyer said while safety is part of everyone's day-to-day job, management at ShoreMaster and Otter Tail Corporation held the event to show appreciation to the team for taking the lead in developing a culture of safety. "Everyone at Plastics understands that safety is their responsibility," he said. "They look out for each other and take personal responsibility for making safety a priority. Otter Tail Power Company is known to be a great place to work in this community. As a sister company, ShoreMaster is striving to build up an equally strong reputation in Fergus Falls as a good, safe employer that does right by our people."
