How do you stabilize a boat dock?

Stabilizing your boat dock requires ensuring the anchoring is secure and correct for your dock system and its water. More extensive dock systems and those in fluctuating or rough waters will require more stabilization than smaller dock systems in calmer waters (although anything less than six feet wide is likely to be unstable, regardless). Stability in dock systems can be extra or more secure anchoring options.

Pipe and Collar Anchoring

Most Rhino Dock systems use Pipe and collar anchoring, especially those in the northern United States. A pipe bracket is bolted onto the dock, then a pipe is slid through that and to the lake bed. This anchoring system is best for relatively shallow waters (less than 15 feet) and doesn't fluctuate much.

Stiff Arm Anchoring

Stiff arm anchoring requires a wall along the shore to anchor the dock but is an excellent system for places with a lot of fluctuation in water levels. Stiff arms are tied back to the seawall or concrete abatement on the shore and act as the dock's only anchoring system.

Winch and Cable Anchoring

Winch and cable anchoring is when there is a winch on each of the four corners of your dock system. The winch goes down through a guide and comes out through a bottom anchor to secure the dock system. You can move your dock while keeping it anchored, even if your water drops as much as 20 feet. We generally recommend this system for southern regions, where the water is prone to fluctuations.

How do I stop my dock from wobbling?

A floating dock can be as stable as a dock system on piles or legs, thanks to today's engineering. A wobbly dock system, regardless of type, needs to be appropriately secured in place. If you have an anchoring system and your dock is still wobbling, consider whether you have chosen the correct anchoring options for your boat dock. You might need to supplement your anchor system for more security or a new system–some are better suited for shallow or calm water than areas with fluctuating water levels or rough conditions. Having expert advice can help you make the correct choice from the start: a local Rhino Marine Systems dealer can help connect your Rhino Dock with your shoreline and water in the most secure and stable way possible.
