How to Fold a Boat Lift Canopy Cover

How to Fold a Canopy Cover

Written by ShoreMaster Marketing

As summer comes to an end and the weather is getting cooler, it's time to start thinking about the fall clean up around the cabin. Part of that clean up includes the ever difficult folding of the boat lift canopy cover. At an average of 24 ft long and 15 pounds it's not like folding a bed sheet. Here are the steps we suggest for folding your canopy cover for storage. We do stress that it’s important to store things correctly so they aren’t damaged for future use. This includes canopy covers.

Before you start folding, make sure the canopy is clean and dry. Check for dirt, pollen, etc. If there is any, gently brush it off. If you want to do a more thorough cleaning, you may clean the cover with warm water and a very gentle soap; anything harsh, such as bleach, will ruin the water repellant formula. Removing the cover takes two people, so grab a friend and let’s get started.

Step 1: Place the frame on level ground. Position a person at each end. You also may lift the cover off the frame and lay it flat on the ground.

Step 2: Begin horizontally folding the cover, much as you would a sleeping bag. Fold approximately 1 ½ feet of cover at a time. Smooth out the fabric with each fold or two. Stop folding when you reach the halfway point.

Step 3: Fold the cover in the same manner from the opposite side. Fold one side over the other when the two sides meet. Smooth out the fabric.

Step 4: Bring one end of the folded cover to the other, as if you were hanging a towel. Starting at the fold, tightly roll up the fabric, pressing out air as you go, until you reach the end. Store the cover in a dry, safe location for next year’s use.

These instructions also apply to ShoreMaster’s curved canopy covers; the folded ends do not have to be a straight line. Just tuck the corners as well as the ruffles on of vinyl covers as best you can.
